Lisa recalls that her love of baking began around the time she was 11 years old. Having grown up the eldest daughter of 7 in a big passionate family and on a farm, Lisa assumed responsibility for keeping the cookie jar full. She decided that it was her mission and her very own responsibility, but quickly figured out that, in a gang of hungry kids, it wasn't always easy to keep the jar full. So, baking became a daily thing...never a chore, always a joy. Lisa was quick to discover an added bonus, baking was a way to destress and a way to bring the family together over sweets made with love. For sure, her mission experienced complications, like that time she made peanut butter cookies with a cup of salt instead of sugar!
Lisa grew up watching her mother, herself a wonderful cook and baker, pour over Bon Appetite magazines and trying out all the exotic recipes and not being afraid to experiment in the kitchen. Her mom's culinary daring was always a triumph. It’s no exaggeration to say that both of Lisa’s parents were fabulous cooks who owned a restaurant and two Italian delis which were Lisa’s classrooms.
In her 20's, Lisa would go all out on holidays, baking all sorts of holiday treats and gifting fanciful cookie boxes to all her family & friends (willing audience). And when traveling abroad, in her professional role as a nurse, from Korea, China, and Hungary to the Czech Republic, England and many other countries, she always made trips to the local bakeries. Lisa never neglected her love of creating, cooking and baking. During her nursing career, she made the time to earn a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales. With inspiration, first from her family and , then from her many travels, Lisa brings love, passion, and professional knowledge and skill to her baking. Lisa’s baking is all about her heart ❤️!
The inspiration for our whole food energy bars came from going to the gym! Have you ever gone to the gym in the winter and all they had to offer for a post work-out snack was an icy shake? Or maybe an energy bar that had enhanced protein and sweetener substitutions that left it lacking in taste? Lisa was looking for a snack bar without unnecessary added ingredients, that she could take on-the-go, and that actually tasted good and didn't leave her guessing what was in it or what the weird taste was from.
So, equipped with a rich family history, her own expertise, and her always there joy of baking, she set out to create what she needed.
With her background in healthcare, the nutrition of the bars was extremely important. She knew she wanted to use organic, real food ingredients and sustainable practices. Her willing audience was there again for her to taste test as she perfected her recipes over a year's time.
Lisa believes that food is beautiful, and it's not just fuel for the body, it should taste amazing! That's why we have spent so much time making sure our recipes are perfect - perfectly tasty and nutritious.
